New to Central

Central UMC is located on historic Church Street in the heart of downtown Asheville, NC.  We pride ourselves on being a community for Christ in the center of the city. On Saturday evening or Sunday morning you will find parking behind our campus that may be accessed via Coxe Avenue.  Click here for a map of available parking.

Regardless of their style, all our worship services give you space to experience Biblical truths that are relevant and applicable for your life. Led by the beautiful storytelling of our Senior Pastor, Rob Blackburn, each worship service gives participants freedom to worship God.

Our traditional services are held in our beautiful sanctuary, where members and visitors see the face of God in towering stained glass and the person sitting next to them. Our first-class music program and attention to prayer and liturgy offer an opportunity to commune with God.

Our Saturdays @ 6 contemporary service is held in our fellowship hall. With snacks and coffee, worship at Central on Saturday night is the perfect way to begin your evening in downtown Asheville. With music led by our Worship Coordinator, Grady Wiley, and our praise band, this intimate service will give you the perfect space to worship.

Whatever you feel comfortable in! You'll see people dressed in casual clothes and suits worshiping side-by-side at Central. We're much more interested in meeting you than in what you choose to wear.

If you would like to worship with your children, please know that they are welcome in any of our services.

During the Sunday morning worship services our Director of Christian Education, Lynnette Sills, offers a children’s moment. Following the children’s moment, our Children's Church program invites children ages two - 2nd grade to a time of worship and fellowship.

If you have children you are welcome to take them to one of our age-appropriate nurseries or Sunday School classes. A nursery is available for infants and toddlers in Room 104. Sunday School classes are available for children ages 2 and up every Sunday morning from  9:45 - 10:45 a.m.. Children ages two - four explore the Bible through curriculum that invites our youngest children to experience the Bible through lessons that excite the senses and welcome active participation. Elementary age children participate in Rotation Sunday School where they experience a different themed workshop each Sunday that brings the Bible to life through art, music, cooking, games, drama, puppetry, and movies.  For more specific information about Children's Church and Sunday School classes, please see our Childrens' Ministry page.  The Middle School Sunday School class (th - 8th graders) meets in Room 402.  The High School Sunday School class (9th - 12th graders) meets in Room 400.

During Saturdays @ 6, childcare is provided for children ages 4 and under in Room 104.

If you are a parent of an infant and choose to take advantage of the nursery care, you will be asked to register your child.  You will be assigned a call receiver so that you may be called if you are needed; this serves as a security mechanism that protects all our precious children. All children must have a colored security sticker with a security code that will allow you to pick your child up.

We have many adult Sunday school classes that meet from 9:45 (or 10:00) - 10:45 a.m. each Sunday.  One great option is our Newcomers Class.  This class provides a comprehensive introduction to Central UMC and gives information on the history and doctrine of the United Methodist Church.  For more detailed information about adult Sunday school classes, click here.

We also offer SONday School to complement our Saturdays @ 6 worship service.  This class meets on Saturdays from 4:45 - 5:45 p.m. in Room 215.  (This class does not meet during the summer.)

When you attend a service at Central, be sure to fill out the attendance card in your pew rack to let us know you were here; you can note any specific information you would like on the back of that card.
