United Methodist Women

Our Mission

The largest women’s organization in the world, the United Methodist Women (UMW), emphasizes services for women, youth and children by supporting missions in thousands of communities in every state and in over 50 countries around the world.

UMW are a community of believers in God and disciples of Christ who are called to deepen their personal faith and to provide vital corporate ministries of worship, education, mission, fellowship, and evangelism in the church and the world.

Purpose

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

You Are Invited

All women are invited to join one of the 6 UMW circles at Central Church. Come join women just like you—women of all ages; single and married; working and retired; moms, grandmothers and even great grandmothers. We are women who love to travel, quilt, cook, garden, read, do crafts, enjoy music and the arts. We learn from each other and make life-long friends.

If you would like to visit one (or more) of our circles listed below, please contact Maureen Carr at (828) 277-7065.

UMW Circles

Anna Circle

The Anna Circle was fortunate to have the Rev. Amy Leachman conduct a Convenant Renewal Service in the Chapel for their February meeting. It was a meaningful service based on Ecclesiastes 3: A Time for Everything. Many thanks to Amy for coming in on her day off to bring this important message to us! In March, our Pledge to Missions program was led by Clarita Burton and Nancy Kitch. We learned about the many missions, here and abroad, who benefit from pledges made by UMW. Our Circle continues to provide pillows each month for Hospice, as well as many other local service projects. Meetings are held the first Friday of each month at 10am in the Church Parlor.

The Anna Circle will meet the SECOND Friday of the month. Please call Kim Lehnen (828) 687-0234 or Bunny Daniels (828) 684-0175 with questions. Circle members will be emailed the restaurant name and location when reservations are made.

Deborah Circle

Eve Circle visited Bethlehem Community Center on June 6.  Seven members traveled by church van to visit this center in Winston-Salem organized in 1927 under the supervision of the Women's Missionary Council of the United Methodist Church.  As the center prepares for its 90th anniversary, it is serving 180 pre-school children supervised by 46 employees.  Today's UMW organization continues to own the land and buildings at the center site, and UMW provides financial support for the center.

Eve Circle will not meet in July and August

In September, we will resume our schedule of meeting at 10 am the first Tuesday of the month.  Our September meeting will be at the home of Glenda Patterson.  Judy Peele will lead us in a UMW book study.  Members are asked to bring their finished gift boxes for Armenia to this meeting.  Please enclose the handling fee at the top of each box.

Call Sharon LeDuc at 230-0464 if you need further information.  September would be a great time for interested women to join our circle.

Martha Circle

Martha Circle is a group of women in our 30s, 40s, 50s, etc.  We’re always welcoming new members who are interested in journeying together as we seek God’s will for our lives. We would love to have any interested woman join us!
